First, GOD I KNOW ALREADY. It’s “Chrono”, but I’ve spelled it Chrno for so long, I don’t wanna change now…
Second, I have to say that I’ve never watched/read something so compelling with a storyline like this.
I’ve always had a special place in my heart for complicated plotlines and stories with a lot of morales behind them… Stuff like Black Cat and XXXHOLiC. You know, with suspense that keeps you craving for more, and a story that makes you furrow your brow and wonder how the hell they got out of THAT problem.
I’ve also had a special place for characters that have so much personality that I feel that I know them. Like they’re some of my closest friends, and I’m watching their lives unfold. And even though they’re anime characters, you feel sad for them, want to laugh when they’ve done something stupid, and want to hit the evil bad guy over the head with a newspaper for harassing them.
On top of that, I’ve always had another place for stuff with good animation. Because I’m so picky that I’ll often pick an anime based on how it looks.
Chrno Crusade met all of that… Even from the very beginning of this series, I knew I’d like Rosette and Chrno. I didn’t know that I’d last through their whole story and end up crying in the end, but I knew I’d like them. And as the plot went on, I began loving all the other Chrno Crusade lovers, and hating the haters indeed. And god forbid the evil fangirl who made her Mary Sue to obstruct my sacred plot. My Flamethrower Mark 86 was thrown into the fray without question.
And yet, this anime really piqued my interest, because I found that the topics and realism behind the story were truly interesting. I also found myself researching Satanism, and yet found myself Googling Christian beliefs in the 1920s.
And finally, when everything came to an end, I couldn’t help but watch it over again. Rosette and Chrno’s epic saga replayed again and again for my own otaku pleasure.
Rating: **************************************************…. Mkay, five is enough.
Note: The manga and anime endings are different. Which one did you like better?
